About Vendigital
Vendigital is a Management Consultancy founded in 2000 with a focus on the use of technology to improve supply chain issues. They have a suite of web applications and BI tools currently marketed under the name Insights360.
Vendigital focuses on consultancy projects from a few key sectors such as automotive, aerospace and defence, transportation and manufacturing.
Vendigital's tech offering ranges from various analytics tools such as Spend Analytics and Supplier Analytics as well as e-Auction solutions and BI based dashboards.
My Role
I was employed at Vendigital as their Technology Development Lead working as part of the leadership team. My initial focus was to build an in-house development team as the previously contracted third-party, Dedoko, were no longer available.
I quickly ramped the team up focusing on developing the team out of Bristol due to the availability of talent around the city. At its peak the Vendigital development team consisted of 4 PHP developers, 3 testers, 2 Project Managers and 1 Quality Assurance Lead
With the team expanding I started to focus on planning the evolution of the Vendigital application suite, proposing several new projects as well as enhancements of existing solutions to the senior team to achieve buy-in and get budgets allocated.
The development team were able to complete 5 major projects during this time which included 3 fresh applications as well as major iterations on some of the existing tools. We were also able to migrate the hosting infrastructure from bare-metal Bytemark servers over to an AWS cloud solution which was more reliable, secure and scalable. Making use of Puppet as an infrastructure management solution as well as log centralisation and searching through FluentD, Kibana and Elasticsearch.
The team were also responsible for maintenance of the existing applications as well as minor iterations to keep on top of client requirements. I would often engage directly with clients to understand where the Vendigital tools were working well and where improvements could still be made.
I left Vendigital employment in September 2020, I remained on a contract basis until March 2021 to assist with the process of migrating to an off-shore development company as well as a third party cloud services provider.
